How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

We have not started to research this hospital, but you can see what comments are for hospitals with similar patient satisfaction rates:

Nurses Say it Straight

Shortened actual comments from nurses working at Duke Regional Hospital

Not recommended for patients, especially those with chronic illnesses, people of color, or females. Cultural issue with labeling and bias.

Duke Regional provides exceptional care, highly recommended by patients, with top-notch quality in all departments and even after discharge.

I would recommend it, but it depends on the specific unit.

Good quality of care, but level varies based on individual needs. Recommended Duke main for high acuity and specialty care.

"Wouldn't recommend them. New nurses, high turnover, gap in care. Experience and level of care not the best."

Good quality care, some burnout during COVID but efforts made to improve. Smaller hospital with a sense of community. Occasional supply issues but doesn't affect patient care. Friendly and personable atmosphere.

Areas of improvement needed; confident in women's service line, not as confident in rest of adult service lines.

Great care in my unit, but recommend Duke for higher level of care. Everyone there loves their job and patients.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Duke Regional Hospital demonstrates high overall patient satisfaction. Additionally, the hospital has a longer than average wait time in the emergency room, with an average of over 3 hours for patients to be seen and treated. However, Duke Regional Hospital excels at ensuring patients do not acquire infections during their stay.
