CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Better seek care elsewhere. Staffing issues, overwhelmed staff, unable to establish connection with patients.

Fantastic mental health unit, but hesitant to recommend medically.

Great care, amazing nurses, great doctors, compassionate team - would recommend our hospital to someone I love.

Skilled nurses, extreme shortage, hesitant to refer family. Short-staffed, often 60%, 3 patients in ICU. Good community presence, corporate-driven focus on stakeholders.

Understaffed but dedicated nurses strive to provide quality care despite challenging conditions, going above and beyond for patients.

Hospital care poor. Wouldn't recommend. Understaffed. Administration doesn't care. Overwhelming number of patients makes it difficult to provide proper care.

Truly exceptional care, hardworking team, life-saving efforts, amazing unity.

"Depends on the unit. Would recommend hospital overall, but hesitant about the ED. Staff seems hardened and uncaring."

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

St Barnabas Hospital has received very low overall patient satisfaction ratings according to the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data. Patients have reported challenges with nurse communication and staff responsiveness to their needs. Communication about medications, discharge, and follow-up instructions have also been reported as challenging. Additionally, patients have experienced difficulties with transitions between departments in the hospital. Concerns have also been raised regarding the cleanliness of the hospital. The hospital has a long average ER wait time, with patients waiting over 3 hours to be seen and treated. St Barnabas Hospital does not perform well in treating conditions like heart failure and pneumonia, resulting in patients needing to return to the hospital. However, the hospital excels in preventing infections among its patients.
