CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at St Charles Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Perform high-quality care, but expect long wait times. Nice ICU, good team of physicians, surgeons, and providers. Overall, really good job.

Not a very nice hospital, but ER doctors are good. Nursing care can be inconsistent, working on improving.

Excellent care from coworkers, but not enough time for each patient. Common challenge in healthcare. Committed to doing our best.

Exceptional care. Incredibly strong nurses. Genuine care. Saint Luke's on the Plaza cannot match the quality of care. East is unmatched.

Good care, but staffing needs improvement; still comfortable with family coming here.

Floors: Excellent care. ER: Not up to par,

"Not recommended. Quality of care lacking, unsure if due to younger/newer staff or specific training."

Level of care at hospital is outstanding

Good hospital, but long ER wait times due to lack of available beds.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

St Charles Hospital demonstrates average overall patient satisfaction, as indicated by their CMS HCAHPS patient ratings. The hospital displays average performance in all measured mortality rates. However, one aspect of concern is the extended wait time experienced by patients in the emergency room, taking an average of over 3 hours for patients to receive care. Furthermore, St Charles Hospital struggles in effectively treating conditions such as heart failure to prevent patients from returning to the hospital. Conversely, the hospital excels in its above-average efforts to prevent patients from acquiring infections during their stay.
