CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Mount Sinai South Nassau but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Excellent quality of care with skilled team, teamwork, collaboration, and adequate staff including residents, interns, and nursing students.

St. Joseph's is a good hospital despite some unfavorable experiences, with sometimes malfunctioning equipment causing upset amongst patients.

Reservations about care quality, uncomfortable bringing family, residents still learning, physicians don't listen, not enough time to educate, shortages, concerned about safety.

I would recommend this hospital for good quality care; I have worked and been a patient here.

Quality of care varies, challenging on busy days. Staffing improved but still need more trained nurses and doctors in pediatrics.

Trust the quality of care, well-rounded specialties, great team, concerns about high utilization of LVNs compared to RNs.

Exceptional nurses, hardworking doctors and staff, top-notch care, multitude of resources, best possible treatment. Very fortunate.

Understaffed but dedicated nurses strive to provide quality care despite challenging conditions, going above and beyond for patients.

Quality of care is not satisfactory due to shortage of nurses. I would not recommend coming here.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Mount Sinai South Nassau has received low overall patient satisfaction ratings, with patients reporting significant challenges regarding staff responsiveness to their needs. Additionally, the hospital has a long emergency room wait time, averaging over 3 hours for patients to be seen and treated. Unfortunately, Mount Sinai South Nassau does not perform well in terms of treating conditions like heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia, resulting in a higher rate of patients needing to return to the hospital. However, it should be noted that the hospital excels in ensuring that patients do not contract infections during their stay.
