CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.
How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?
With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).
While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Quality of care comparable to other hospitals in Kansas City, but not my top pick due to staffing issues.
Doing their best with limited resources, but some nurses don't care. Advocate for your family member or pull the nurse card. Mixed recommendations.
Understaffed but dedicated nurses strive to provide quality care despite challenging conditions, going above and beyond for patients.
Quality of care is not satisfactory due to shortage of nurses. I would not recommend coming here.
Quality of care needs improvement, nursing shortage, high physician turnover, focus on profit, lacking necessary equipment, issues within our hospital.
Hospital good overall, staffing problem. Cardiology has best cardiac team. Nervous about quality of care in med surg units.
Some departments provide better care, but my department is run well. There are often issues with understaffing and past errors.
Overall, the hospital is doing a good job and worth mentioning that it is now a teaching hospital for doctors.
We care for our patients well, with attentive managers. As a newer nurse, I'm still learning.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:
Staten Island University Hospital has received low overall patient satisfaction ratings according to the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data. Patients have reported that the care team can be slow in meeting their needs, and have concerns about being able to have quiet rest in the hospital. The hospital has a long average wait time in the Emergency Room, with patients waiting over 3 hours to be seen and treated. However, the hospital is above-average in ensuring that patients do not get infections during their stay. On the other hand, the hospital does not perform well in treating conditions like pneumonia, resulting in patients having a higher likelihood of returning to the hospital.
