CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Nyack Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

"I'd be good in my ICU, but med-surg floors have high turnover rate. MedSurg nurses lack comprehensive care, history knowledge. Don't want family in towers due to safety."

Quality of care is very good, not outstanding. Some staff members seem inadequately trained, but teamwork, cohesiveness, and management support are outstanding.

Culture of safety is top priority, best in area; would choose prestigious hospital for surgery without hesitation.

Overall, the nurse feels that the quality of care in their hospital is good, but wishes they could do more.

Definitely recommend Truman for medical, trauma, and critical care; concerns with surgery department. Very good care quality overall.

Recommend hospital, but choose doctors/nurses carefully.

Good care after ER, but CNAs lack motivation, low morale, and provide subpar care without seeming to care.

"Our care is pretty good. We don't get enough credit. We are a smaller community hospital and we do pretty good work there."

Overall, the nurse does not recommend the ED due to issues and disagrees about referring loved ones because of the quality of care.

Lodi hospital is really good at taking care of patients, with caring nurses who do their best to ensure the best treatment.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Based on the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data, Nyack Hospital exhibits some areas for improvement. Patients have expressed low overall satisfaction and have noted delays in the care team meeting their needs. Communication regarding medications, discharge, and follow-up instructions has been reported as challenging. Additionally, patients have faced difficulties during transitions between departments within the hospital. While the hospital's measured mortality rates are average, there are notable concerns about the hospital's treatment of conditions such as heart failure and pneumonia, resulting in potentially higher readmission rates. However, the hospital does excel in preventing infections, displaying above-average performance in this area. Patients should be aware of these factors when seeking care at Nyack Hospital.
