CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

These comments are not from nurses at Brooklyn Hospital Center - Downtown Campus but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Fantastic mental health unit, but hesitant to recommend medically.

Provide excellent care despite short-staffed. Full confidence in our nurses to care for my family members.

Great care, amazing nurses, great doctors, compassionate team - would recommend our hospital to someone I love.

Advise seeking care elsewhere due to doctor turnover. Recommend going to KU.

Recommended for cardiac care and having a baby, but concerns about GI care, suggesting to consider other options for general surgery.

"Depends on the unit. Would recommend hospital overall, but hesitant about the ED. Staff seems hardened and uncaring."

Skilled nurses, extreme shortage, hesitant to refer family. Short-staffed, often 60%, 3 patients in ICU. Good community presence, corporate-driven focus on stakeholders.

Understaffed but dedicated nurses strive to provide quality care despite challenging conditions, going above and beyond for patients.

Highly recommended research hospital with a wide range of specialties, exceptional care, and capability to handle complex cases.

Reservations about care quality, uncomfortable bringing family, residents still learning, physicians don't listen, not enough time to educate, shortages, concerned about safety.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Based on the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data, the quality of care at Brooklyn Hospital Center - Downtown Campus presents some concerns. Overall patient satisfaction is very low, with patients reporting numerous challenges in various aspects of their care. Nurse communication and staff responsiveness to patient needs are significant areas of concern. Communication regarding medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up is also reported as challenging. Additionally, patients express difficulties with transitions between departments and highlight concerns about the cleanliness of the hospital. Furthermore, the hospital's ER wait time is notably lengthy, averaging over 3 hours for patients to receive treatment. It is worth noting that the hospital does not effectively treat conditions like pneumonia to prevent readmissions, although it does successfully mitigate the risk of infections among its patients.
