CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at New York-Presbyterian/Queens but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Great teamwork, passionate staff, improved care with hospitalists, better communication, accessible doctors, and flexible availability.

Some departments provide better care, but my department is run well. There are often issues with understaffing and past errors.

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

Trust the quality of care, well-rounded specialties, great team, concerns about high utilization of LVNs compared to RNs.

Quality of care depends on doctor and nurse, bad ones leave you out of luck, same for any hospital.

Valley Baptist hospital is definitely preferable over our hospital.

Hospital care poor. Wouldn't recommend. Understaffed. Administration doesn't care. Overwhelming number of patients makes it difficult to provide proper care.

Quality of care comparable to other hospitals in Kansas City, but not my top pick due to staffing issues.

Good care for loved ones at this hospital.

Legacy Emanuel is recommended for family members, good outcomes with sick patients; trust in providers. Good with trauma patients, neuro trauma care. Not recommended for cancer patients.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

New York-Presbyterian/Queens, as per CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data, has received low overall patient satisfaction. Patients have reported that the care team can be slow in meeting their needs, leading to concerns regarding the ability to have quiet rest in the hospital. Additionally, the hospital has an extended ER wait time, with patients waiting for over 3 hours on average to be seen and treated. While the hospital falls short in effectively treating conditions like heart failure to prevent readmissions, it does excel in ensuring that patients at the hospital do not acquire infections.
