CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

We have not started to research this hospital, but you can see what comments are for hospitals with similar patient satisfaction rates:

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at JFK Medical Center but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Quality of care comparable to other hospitals in Kansas City, but not my top pick due to staffing issues.

Doing their best with limited resources, but some nurses don't care. Advocate for your family member or pull the nurse card. Mixed recommendations.

Hospital care poor. Wouldn't recommend. Understaffed. Administration doesn't care. Overwhelming number of patients makes it difficult to provide proper care.

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

Exemplary care; competent nurses and doctors. I would choose St. Joseph for receiving care.

Some departments provide better care, but my department is run well. There are often issues with understaffing and past errors.

"Extraordinary care in north tower. Patients on other floors don't receive the same level. DHR is the best hospital."

Trust the quality of care, well-rounded specialties, great team, concerns about high utilization of LVNs compared to RNs.

Quality of care is not satisfactory due to shortage of nurses. I would not recommend coming here.

"Depends on the unit. Would recommend hospital overall, but hesitant about the ED. Staff seems hardened and uncaring."

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Based on the available data from the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings, JFK Medical Center shows low overall patient satisfaction. Patients have reported facing significant challenges with staff responsiveness to their needs. One notable concern is the extended wait time in the Emergency Room, where patients take an average of over 3 hours to be seen and treated. Furthermore, the hospital's performance in treating conditions like heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia falls short, leading to a higher likelihood of patients having to return to the hospital. However, it is worth noting that JFK Medical Center excels in preventing infections among their patients.
