CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Banner Boswell Medical Center but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Some departments provide better care, but my department is run well. There are often issues with understaffing and past errors.

Reservations about care quality, uncomfortable bringing family, residents still learning, physicians don't listen, not enough time to educate, shortages, concerned about safety.

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

Choose nurse and doctor carefully, no concerns when transferring patients to ICU or MedSurg.

We care for our patients well, with attentive managers. As a newer nurse, I'm still learning.

Valley Baptist hospital is definitely preferable over our hospital.

Varied experiences across departments.

Quality of care comparable to other hospitals in Kansas City, but not my top pick due to staffing issues.

We provide good care, but sometimes lack sufficient CNAs.

Legacy Emanuel: overall recommended, outlying hospitals inconsistent, violence-prone population, witnessed safety disasters, encounters with individuals carrying weapons, improving safety measures.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Banner Boswell Medical Center has received low overall patient satisfaction ratings according to CMS HCAHPS data. Patients have reported that the care team can be slow at times in meeting their needs, and there are concerns regarding the cleanliness of the hospital. Furthermore, patients have expressed difficulties in having a quiet rest during their stay. The hospital's mortality rates are average across all measured categories. However, the hospital has relatively long wait times in the emergency room, with patients waiting an average of over 3 hours to be seen and treated. Additionally, the hospital's performance in treating conditions such as heart failure and pneumonia, aiming to prevent readmissions, is not commendable. These facts provide an unbiased review of the quality of care at Banner Boswell Medical Center.
