CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Fantastic mental health unit, but hesitant to recommend medically.

People I work with are caring and professional. Concerned about staffing and patient care, advocating for safe ratios.

Quality of care is not satisfactory due to shortage of nurses. I would not recommend coming here.

Definitely encourage my family to come here. Quality care is really good, excellent doctors.

Variable quality of care, some doctors untrustworthy.

Advise seeking care elsewhere due to doctor turnover. Recommend going to KU.

Great care, chaotic unit, busy, but team works tirelessly to meet everyone's needs to the best of our ability.

Care generally good, but challenges with staffing shortages make it difficult to reach staff, especially for seriously ill patients.

Overall, the hospital is doing a good job and worth mentioning that it is now a teaching hospital for doctors.

Trust the quality of care, well-rounded specialties, great team, concerns about high utilization of LVNs compared to RNs.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Valley Hospital Medical Center aims to provide quality care to its patients. However, according to CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data, there are areas that require improvement. Overall patient satisfaction is low, with patients indicating that the care team can be slow in meeting their needs. Communication about medications and challenges with hospital cleanliness have also been reported by patients. The hospital's mortality rates are average across all measured categories. Additionally, the ER wait time is lengthy, with patients waiting over 3 hours on average to be seen and treated. The hospital struggles in effectively treating conditions such as heart failure and pneumonia, leading to higher rates of readmissions. However, one area where the hospital excels is in preventing infections among patients.
