CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Harper University Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Fantastic mental health unit, but hesitant to recommend medically.

Hardworking staff, but apparent staffing issues; patients feel rushed, lack downtime, and may have delayed assistance.

Provide excellent care despite short-staffed. Full confidence in our nurses to care for my family members.

Great care, chaotic unit, busy, but team works tirelessly to meet everyone's needs to the best of our ability.

Varied experiences across departments.

Quality of care at the hospital is a 5/10; provider-dependent. Some are knowledgeable and provide great care, others, especially new grads, may not. Pandemic exposed weaknesses, need proper fixes.

St. Joseph's is a good hospital despite some unfavorable experiences, with sometimes malfunctioning equipment causing upset amongst patients.

Great teamwork, passionate staff, improved care with hospitalists, better communication, accessible doctors, and flexible availability.

Quality of care varies, challenging on busy days. Staffing improved but still need more trained nurses and doctors in pediatrics.

"Depends on the unit. Would recommend hospital overall, but hesitant about the ED. Staff seems hardened and uncaring."

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Harper University Hospital has received low overall patient satisfaction ratings, indicating that patients were not satisfied with the quality of care provided. Reports from patients highlight significant challenges with staff responsiveness to their needs and communication about discharge and follow-up instructions. Additionally, patients reported difficulties with transitions between hospital departments and expressed concerns about the cleanliness of the facility. The hospital's emergency room wait time is notably long, with patients waiting an average of over 3 hours for treatment. Furthermore, the hospital does not perform well in treating conditions such as heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia, resulting in patients returning to the hospital. However, it is worth noting that the hospital performs above average in preventing infections among its patients.
