How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

We have not started to research this hospital, but you can see what comments are for hospitals with similar patient satisfaction rates:

Nurses Say it Straight

Shortened actual comments from nurses working at Ascension St Mary's Hospital

Great care, but lacking due to staffing and overwhelming workload. Might not be timely or as expected, due to lack of resources and availability.

Lack of attention to patients. Concerned about understaffing and lack of communication. Patients unaware of treatment. Focus on documentation and money. Inadequate resources.

Quality of care varies based on factors including stress level, patient load, and staffing; sometimes we have 5-6 patients.

Poor quality of care with patients arriving from the floor with bad IVs and covered in stool or urine, sometimes without a gown.

Depends on what they need to be seen for. Excellent care for neurological issues, but understaffed and high turnover rate in cardiology.

Quality of care declined recently.

Excellent care, best possible for all.

Quality of care not good. Severely short-staffed. Hinders ability to provide adequate nursing care. Difficult patient staffing ratios.

For neurology or stroke, definitely recommend our hospital. For other medical conditions, advise seeking treatment elsewhere.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Ascension St Mary's Hospital has an average overall patient satisfaction rating, indicating a moderate level of satisfaction among patients. Some concerns have been reported regarding the ability to have a quiet rest at the hospital. In terms of measured mortality rates, the hospital falls within average ranges across all categories. However, the hospital exhibits a long average wait time in the emergency room, with patients waiting for over 3 hours before receiving treatment. Furthermore, the hospital's performance in treating conditions such as pneumonia could be improved, as patients often require readmission.
