CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Excellent handling of stroke patients in the Emergency Department, but delays and lower quality care in med-surg floors.

Very comfortable for family in ER, but strongly urge going somewhere else for higher level of care.

Overall, the nurse feels the hospital has good quality of care, a strong sense of family, and knowledge of each other. However, some departments are stronger than others, with the ER currently being the weakest.

Highly recommend hospital, especially cardiology department. Shortage of staff, but not as dire as it seems.

Better care in ICU/critical care, new grads in med/surg, low staffing ratios affect quality of care.

Overall, good care, outdated facilities, competent doctors, dedicated staff, highly skilled nursing, good patient care.

Definitely recommend hospital, good quality care with competent nurses and doctors implementing evidence-based practices.

Quality of care is average to above average.

"Not recommended. Quality of care lacking, unsure if due to younger/newer staff or specific training."

Not a very nice hospital, but ER doctors are good. Nursing care can be inconsistent, working on improving.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Phoebe Sumter Medical Center has an average overall patient satisfaction rating. Patients have expressed positive feedback regarding the quiet atmosphere of the hospital. However, it is important to note that the hospital experiences a lengthy emergency room wait time, with an average wait of over 3 hours for patients to be seen and treated. Additionally, the hospital is not performing well in terms of treating conditions such as heart failure, which results in a higher rate of patients returning to the hospital. On the positive side, the hospital excels in ensuring that patients do not acquire infections during their stay, surpassing the average standard in this area.
