CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Exemplary care; competent nurses and doctors. I would choose St. Joseph for receiving care.

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

St. Joseph's is a good hospital despite some unfavorable experiences, with sometimes malfunctioning equipment causing upset amongst patients.

Choose nurse and doctor carefully, no concerns when transferring patients to ICU or MedSurg.

"Extraordinary care in north tower. Patients on other floors don't receive the same level. DHR is the best hospital."

Valley Baptist hospital is definitely preferable over our hospital.

Doing their best with limited resources, but some nurses don't care. Advocate for your family member or pull the nurse card. Mixed recommendations.

Hospital care poor. Wouldn't recommend. Understaffed. Administration doesn't care. Overwhelming number of patients makes it difficult to provide proper care.

100% commitment to patients, amazing teamwork, not feeling alone, always room for improvement.

Overall feeling: Hospital care could be better post-pandemic; budget issues lead to cheaper supplies; core staff underappreciated; travel nurses given better incentives.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Brookwood Baptist Medical Center has an average overall patient satisfaction according to CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data. Patients have reported that the care team can be slow at times in meeting their needs. In terms of mortality rates, the hospital is average in every measured category. The hospital's ER wait time is also average, with patients being seen and treated in 2-3 hours on average. However, the hospital does not perform well in treating conditions such as heart attacks and pneumonia, resulting in patients needing to return to the hospital.
