CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at USA Health University Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Lodi hospital is really good at taking care of patients, with caring nurses who do their best to ensure the best treatment.

Confident in bringing adult loved ones, but iffy about MedSurg unit due to overworked nurses and inconsistent care.

Quality of nurses decreased, recommend St. Joseph's, staffing and management issues, struggles on medical-surgical floor, inefficient transfers for neuro patients.

Excellent care, challenges with staffing, transfer to OHSU for surgery.

Quality of care is good overall, but varies by unit.

Not recommend for all family, but good overall. Top cardiology surgeon. Recommend specific unit. Coworkers welcoming. Solid staff. Manager and peers are supportive. Tricky location. High drug overdose and homeless population.

Resources & teamwork amazing. Great physicians on call at night. Always have physicians available; not common elsewhere.

Overall, excellent care in LD, unsure about other areas. Close to home, good community hospital.

Avoid hospital, few specialties, inexperienced staff, lack trust.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

Based on the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data, USA Health University Hospital demonstrates an average overall patient satisfaction. Patients have reported challenges regarding the cleanliness of the hospital. In terms of mortality rates, the hospital falls within the average range across all measurements. However, it is notable that the hospital experiences longer than average wait times in the emergency room, with an average of over 3 hours for patients to be seen and treated. Furthermore, the hospital's performance in treating conditions such as pneumonia, indicating a lower success rate in preventing patients from needing readmission, is not optimal.
