CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Understaffed but dedicated nurses strive to provide quality care despite challenging conditions, going above and beyond for patients.

Skilled nurses, extreme shortage, hesitant to refer family. Short-staffed, often 60%, 3 patients in ICU. Good community presence, corporate-driven focus on stakeholders.

Quality of care comparable to other hospitals in Kansas City, but not my top pick due to staffing issues.

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

Not recommending hospital, ED unit lacking, insufficient patient care.

Excellent quality of care with skilled team, teamwork, collaboration, and adequate staff including residents, interns, and nursing students.

"Extraordinary care in north tower. Patients on other floors don't receive the same level. DHR is the best hospital."

Quality of care varies, challenging on busy days. Staffing improved but still need more trained nurses and doctors in pediatrics.

Fantastic mental health unit, but hesitant to recommend medically.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital has received mixed patient ratings and quality data. Overall patient satisfaction is low, with some patients reporting that the care team can be slow in meeting their needs. There are also challenges with communication regarding medication. Transitions between departments in the hospital have been reported as significantly challenging by patients. Additionally, patients have expressed concerns about being able to have quiet rest during their stay. Although the hospital is average in every measured mortality rate and has an average ER wait time of 2-3 hours, it does not perform well in preventing readmissions for conditions like heart failure and pneumonia. However, the hospital excels in preventing infections among its patients.
