CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Flagler Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

ICU is strong, received award, ED is chaotic, biggest in the area, challenging to manage.

Overall, the hospital is doing a good job and worth mentioning that it is now a teaching hospital for doctors.

Exemplary care; competent nurses and doctors. I would choose St. Joseph for receiving care.

Good quality care, highly skilled doctors, respectful treatment of staff and patients.

Quality of care varies, challenging on busy days. Staffing improved but still need more trained nurses and doctors in pediatrics.

We care for our patients well, with attentive managers. As a newer nurse, I'm still learning.

Varied experiences across departments.

Quality of care at the hospital is a 5/10; provider-dependent. Some are knowledgeable and provide great care, others, especially new grads, may not. Pandemic exposed weaknesses, need proper fixes.

Hospital good overall, staffing problem. Cardiology has best cardiac team. Nervous about quality of care in med surg units.

"For ER, great nurses and excellent doctors. But for floor care, it varies depending on the unit and nurse."

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

The CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data for Flagler Hospital reveals some notable aspects of the hospital's quality of care. Patients have expressed low overall satisfaction, citing instances where the care team can be slow in attending to their needs. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the cleanliness of the hospital. One particular area of improvement is the hospital's long ER wait time, with patients waiting an average of over 3 hours before being seen and treated. Despite these challenges, one standout aspect is the exceptional efforts made by the hospital to ensure patients do not contract infections during their stay.
