CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at HCA Florida JFK Hospital but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

Varied experiences across departments.

Hospital care poor. Wouldn't recommend. Understaffed. Administration doesn't care. Overwhelming number of patients makes it difficult to provide proper care.

Great care, chaotic unit, busy, but team works tirelessly to meet everyone's needs to the best of our ability.

Some departments provide better care, but my department is run well. There are often issues with understaffing and past errors.

St. Joseph's: kind, helpful, and caring. They treat you like family to help you get well.

Overall, the hospital is doing a good job and worth mentioning that it is now a teaching hospital for doctors.

Good quality care, highly skilled doctors, respectful treatment of staff and patients.

Quality of care depends on doctor and nurse, bad ones leave you out of luck, same for any hospital.

Fantastic mental health unit, but hesitant to recommend medically.

Good place for care, trust the physicians and nursing staff, would recommend to family, comfortable letting them care for me.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

HCA Florida JFK Hospital has received low overall patient satisfaction ratings according to CMS HCAHPS data. Patients have reported significant challenges with staff responsiveness to their needs and communication regarding their medications, discharge, and follow-up instructions. Moreover, patients have also encountered difficulties with transitions between departments within the hospital. However, the hospital maintains an average ER wait time of 2-3 hours. While the hospital is commended for its above-average efforts in preventing infections, it falls short in effectively treating conditions like heart failure and pneumonia to prevent patients from having to return.
