CareLuminate does not have nurse interviews for this hospital currently, but is estimating the Nurse Recommendation Score based on the strong relationship between patient feedback and nurse feedback.

How Does CareLuminate Estimate The Nurse Recommendation Score?

With over 1,000 nurses having participated with CareLuminate to date, we have found that the relationship between hospital patient recommendation ratings and nurse recommendation ratings is very strong (p<.001, R-squared = .42).

While the two ratings are often similar, the comments from nurses are extremely important because they show an important 'inside view' into strengths or concerns in a hospital. CareLuminate is working towards offering nurse insights into every hospital in the US.

Nurses Say it Straight

These comments are not from nurses at Jackson Health System but are instead nurse comments from hospitals with a similar size and quality ratings for illustration of what feedback from nurses at a hospital of this size and quality might be.

St. Joseph's is a good hospital despite some unfavorable experiences, with sometimes malfunctioning equipment causing upset amongst patients.

Not recommending hospital, ED unit lacking, insufficient patient care.

ICU is strong, received award, ED is chaotic, biggest in the area, challenging to manage.

Our hospital provides good care with a dedicated nursing staff despite limited resources.

"I would prefer them to go to Dameron. Honestly, I would have them come because I would be there. There are nurses I would trust with my family."

Depends on what they're looking for. Strong CT, cardiothoracic program. AHA-certified with stroke treatments, but all done via telehealth. Uncomfortable with Stanford consultations. Not for pediatrics.

Professional, efficient, confident in immediate care. Excellent transitions and collaboration with regular staff. Challenging with temporary staff, but overall seamless care.

Quality of care is very good, not outstanding. Some staff members seem inadequately trained, but teamwork, cohesiveness, and management support are outstanding.

Excellent handling of stroke patients in the Emergency Department, but delays and lower quality care in med-surg floors.

Decline in hospital quality since Adventist Health took over, more confident in ICU, depends on loved one's unit.

Summary of Hospital-Reported Data

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to collect and report on hospital quality and patient satisfaction data. While the data can be dated (collected 1 to 4 years ago) the insights are an important view into hospital safety and quality. We looked through all of this data, and here is our summary of what we found:

When reviewing the CMS HCAHPS patient ratings and quality data for Jackson Health System, several notable points emerge. Overall, patient satisfaction at the hospital is low, with patients reporting significant challenges regarding staff responsiveness to their needs. Additionally, the hospital has multiple concerns regarding high patient mortality rates. Furthermore, there is an extended wait time in the emergency room, with patients waiting for over three hours on average to be seen and treated. The hospital does not effectively manage conditions such as heart failure and pneumonia, resulting in a higher likelihood of patients needing readmission. However, the hospital excels in ensuring that patients do not acquire infections during their stay.
